The human race have always been on top of the food chain for as long as they existed. There’s no denying that humans are the smartest creates that roams the universe unless of course there is an aliens civilization somewhere in the universe watching over us, laughing at how stupid we are. We humans tend to take great pride in our intelligence, nonetheless, the animal kingdom itself is full of smart animals that has developed its cognitive abilities to endure the hardships of their natural habitats. Animal intelligence have evolved in many different ways, in many different creatures, they even developed abilities to use rocks and some other different tools to access food, they can also recognize themselves in mirrors. Koko the gorilla is one fine example of how smart animals can get.
There are various animals whom are thought to be the smartest, such as orcas, cats, dogs and monkeys but the smartest of them all is the least expected. Crows or corvids are by far the smartest. They’re playful, mischievous and extremely intelligent. Even though, crows’ brain is the size the human’s thumb but they are sharp and they have developed very advanced skills such as :
1. They recognize human faces.
Beware next time you do something wrong to a crow they won’t forget you. According to John Marzluff and his students, crows can indeed remember faces and can even distinguish what they consider bad or good human according to their own perceptive abilities. What scarier here is that when they form an opinion on someone it can last for years.
2. They can use tools to solve problems.
In a study published in 2020, the New Caledonian crows were shown three different puzzles that they already knew how to open each one of them using a specific tool, afterwards they were removed from to the test area for 5 minutes and then they were provided with 5 different tools for the three puzzles meaning that two were only distractions to see if they would choose the right tools, after 10 minutes they were allowed back in the test area, surprisingly they did brought the right tools to open the puzzles and what’s fascinating is that they took me outside of the test when they opened the puzzles. That is great evidence that crows are very smart and they even match the intelligence f 7 years old humans in that matter.
3. Crows can adapt to new situations.
Crows can really adapt to almost anything. They kind of observe the human behavior a learn from them. A bunch of crows have been caught dropping nuts in traffic lines and waiting for the car tires to crack them open, the most amazing thing here is That they wait until the cross walk sign is red and only then they pick them up.
4. They communicate well with each other about humans.
Most of the time when we set eyes on two crows next to each other gazing at you from far way, we tend to get an odd feeling its like the two crows are really talking about you in a very bad manner. I’m here to tell that your suspicion is pretty right, crows can really communicate and talk about humans and that has been determined by professor Marzfull in his study that says that even the crows that weren’t captured by scientists attacked them is a defensive way.
