Mankind is indeed one hell of a greedy breed. Throughout history, humans have always been greedy and curious to know the secrets of everything. The desire to discover and explore is what makes us different than any other specie. The world of science has his hands full of many things as we speak right now, but the most intriguing topic in science throughout the years is the ongoing search for planets that similar to ours. The idea that planets beyond earth can support life is actually very captivating. The science community and NASA are doing the best they can to do so in the mot accurate way. With the lunch of the James Webb space telescope this mission is looking very promising. NASA have declared that they are looking for unmistakable signs of life outside of our plants if they can find the slightest form of life that’s going to open the door to finding many other planets that even better than ours. Here’s a short list of planets that are similar to ours or could even be better.
1. Gliese 667 cc.
This planet lies only 22 light years away from our planet. It is an exoplanet orbiting the habitable zone a red dwarf star called ‘ 667c’, it is 4.5 times larger than earth according to NASA . It completes one orbit around its host star in a mere 28 days. However, this exoplanet has one side of its hemisphere definitively facing toward the star, and the opposite side dark an cold, but what’s special about planet is that between these intense areas could be a silver of habitability, called ‘terminator line’, where the temperature may be suitable for liquid water to exist and when water exists that planet could definitely support life. In addition to this, a much larger portion of this planet may be habitable if it support a thick enough atmosphere to transform heat to the side facing away from the star.
2. Kepler 186f.
This exoplanet is 580 light years far from earth, it orbits the red dwarf named ‘Kepler-186. This planet was discovered by NASA’s Kepler space telescope. The amazing thing about this exoplanet is that it is the first earth-sized planet ever found. It is orbiting a star in the habitable zone. The Kepler-186f lies in the habitable around its star, that’s why astronomers believe that life could probably thrive in this planet. Nevertheless, that’s not certain, but there a huge possibility that Kepler-186f is the real deal. For now there are no evident signs that this planet could support life even if it belongs to the habitable one but it gave something far more important, it showed us that planets the same size as earth exist for now we’ve found its cousin who knows we might find its long lost brother with an alien civilization within it.
3. Kepler-22b
This exoplanet lies 600 light years away from our planet. This planet was the ever Kepler planet to be discovered in the habitable zone. When this exoplanet was found it was thought to be a promising spot to search for life, but the main problem at that it is so far way it makes it difficult to study in a more efficient way. Back then it needed a more powerful space telescope, and with the James Webb space telescope that was launched this year there’s greater hope to gather more info about this exoplanet and wether it has life within it or not and also if it can support life as well.
